Okemos Polo Primed for Post Season Okemos traveled to Grand Ledge on Tuesday October 7, 2008 to face Grand Ledge, a new CACC team. The Okemos Junior varsity gave up 3 unanswered goals in the first quarter and failed to overcome this deficit, losing 9 to 6 to the Comets. Okemos varsity fielded two very strong lines. Grand Ledge held tough in the first quarter trailing only 5 to 2 at the end of one. Okemos posted 12 unanswered goals in the second quarter and the 17 to 2 deficit proved impossible to overcome. The Chief’s game total of 20 goals came from several players. Juniors Andrew Fandialan and Sam Marsh led the scoring with 4 goals each. Juniors Jacob Leski and Greg Mankowski each posted 3 goals. Sophomore, James Otis, added 2 goals. Juniors Cameron Casher, Zac Wozniak and Spanish exchange student Ruben Lopez, each contributed a goal as did sophomore, Landon Lefler.
As a first year team entering CACC High School Water polo, the Comets honored 4 seniors between the JV and Varsity games. High School Water polo in the CACC is beginning a resurgence with the entrance of talented teams such as Grand Ledge. Young talented teams like the new Grand Ledge Comet team will provide the raw talent and foundation needed to bring exciting High School Water Polo back to Mid-Michigan.
