Okemos defeats the defending State Champion, Rockford for the first time in Okemos High School history!

Okemos Water Polo extends their season record to 18 wins 9 losses with 3 victories at this past weekend’s 2008 Birmingham Invitational tournament.

Two of the key wins included a 4 to 3 victory over defending State Champions “Rockford” and a 7 to 6 victory over “East Kentwood”. Out scoring Rockford 3 to 1 in the first quarter and 1 goal in the third while holding Rockford to only 3 goals total was the key.

Junior Samuel Marsh with great team support and team passing, recorded all four Okemos goals and the OHS tough defense and goal tending gave OHS the win over Rockford and set a first in OHS Water Polo school history.

Leading tournament scorers included Marsh with 15 goals and Wozniak with 6 goals. OHS scoring depth also came from Kyle Barrett with 3 goals and Cam Casher & Greg Kohler with 2 goals each.

A highlight of this weekend tournament was Okemos beating the defending State Champion Rockford for the first time in school history.
